Pimpri-Chinchwad, 22nd October 2025: The Municipal Corporation of Pimpri-Chinchwad is set to establish 22 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the city through a private organization, providing much-needed charging facilities to citizens.
Over the past three years, the Corporation issued tenders four times with varying terms and conditions, but received no response. Now, the process of awarding the contract has entered its final stage. The stations will be set up on a тАШbuild and operateтАЩ model, meaning the Municipal Corporation will not bear any expenditure. The selected organization will receive the site, arrange power supply from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company at its own cost, and will be responsible for operating and maintaining the stations for ten years.
The city has over 23 lakh registered vehicles, including more than 50,000 electric vehicles. The private organization will be allowed to charge customers a maximum of Rs 17 per unit plus service and goods tax. Any increase in electricity tariffs from the distribution company will be adjusted in the customer charges. Each station is estimated to cost around Rs 69 lakh, bringing the total cost for all 22 stations to approximately Rs 20 crore.
