Pimpri-Chinchwad, 22nd October 2025: Pimpri-Chinchwad witnessed a series of fire incidents over the past 16 hours, including a massive blaze at an electric two-wheeler service center in Wakad that destroyed 60 vehicles. The spate of fires, occurring between 12:45 p.m. on October 20 and 4:45 a.m. on October 21, has raised safety concerns across the city, particularly as Diwali approaches.
According to Fire Officer Gautam Ingavale, preliminary reports suggest that the Wakad fire may have been triggered by a battery explosion. тАЬElectric vehicles involved in the fire required the foam method for extinguishing,тАЭ he said. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
The blaze in Wakad was one of the most severe among the 17 incidents recorded in 16 hours. Other fires were reported in areas including Morwadi, Chikhli, Bhosari, Sangvi, Moshi, Ravet, Thergaon, Shivajiwadi, Nigdi, Purnanagar, Sant Tukaramnagar, Pimple Saudagar, Yamunanagar, Rahatani, Punawale, Pimpri Bazar, Jadhavwadi, and Premlok Park. Over four days, from October 17 to 20, the city experienced a total of 29 fire incidents.
Fire personnel faced several challenges while tackling these blazes. In addition to the risk posed by high-voltage power lines, some sites had nearby gas cylinders and crowded urban areas, complicating containment efforts. In the Wakad incident, six fire engines from various PCMC fire stationsтАФincluding Rahatani, Nehrunagar, and ThergaonтАФrushed to the scene and successfully controlled the fire after two hours.
тАЬThe pattern of multiple fires in a short period highlights the importance of strict fire safety measures, especially at electric vehicle showrooms and service centers,тАЭ said Ingavale. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has announced that a detailed inquiry will be conducted into the causes of these fires.
