Hinjawadi, 15th November 2025: As Pune prepares to host the prestigious Pune Grand Tour (PGT) international cycling event, beautification drives along the race routes have triggered frustration among thousands of IT professionals working in the Hinjawadi IT Park. Employees say that while the city is racing to upgrade corridors connected to PGT, long-pending infrastructure issues in Hinjawadi and Pimpri-Chinchwad continue to be overlooked.
Under the campaign #UnclogHinjawadiITPark, tech employees have released a collective statement highlighting what they describe as тАЬunequal development prioritiesтАЭ between event-centric routes and the daily commute corridors used by lakhs of people.
Beautification Push Highlights Lopsided Development
According to employees, civic bodies have rapidly executed clean-up and beautification works along PGT cycling routes, including:
тАв Cleaning and painting of BRT lanes
тАв Refurbishing central dividers
тАв Repairing and repainting bridge pathways
тАв Landscaping and improved signages
They welcomed these improvements but questioned the selective focus. тАЬSuch beautification is welcome, but it should not be restricted to a single route just because an international event is scheduled,тАЭ their statement said.
HinjawadiтАЩs Ongoing Issues Still Unresolved
Despite being home to over 3 lakh employees, the IT Park continues to suffer from:
тАв Severe congestion during peak hours
тАв Poorly maintained internal roads
тАв Unplanned diversions due to construction
тАв Poor pedestrian infrastructure
тАв Inadequate public transport
тАв Delayed PMRDA development works
Employees claim they have repeatedly highlighted these concerns over the past four to five months, but there has been тАЬno meaningful progress,тАЭ with PMRDA allegedly remaining unresponsive.
Demand for Equal Priority
The group argues that HinjawadiтАФone of MaharashtraтАЩs biggest economic zonesтАФdeserves the same urgency being shown for PGT preparations. They point out that the IT sector contributes significantly to tax revenue and sustains thousands of indirect jobs.
тАЬThe cityтАЩs development cannot be event-driven. If transformative work can happen quickly for PGT, why canтАЩt the same pace be applied to resolving issues that affect lakhs of daily commuters?тАЭ the statement reads.
Call for Government Action
The #UnclogHinjawadiITPark movement has urged PMC, PCMC, PMRDA, and the traffic police to:
тАв Review all pending projects in Hinjawadi
тАв Allocate dedicated funds and timelines for key upgrades
тАв Improve coordination among agencies
тАв Maintain transparent communication with stakeholders
They emphasised that while international events bring pride to the city, essential infrastructure cannot be sidelined. тАЬWe welcome global events, but not at the cost of basic facilities that the IT workforce depends on every day,тАЭ the group stated.
Growing Support Online
The hashtag #UnclogHinjawadiITPark has been gaining momentum on social media, with commuters, residents, and tech professionals voicing similar concerns about selective development.
As PGT preparations continue at a rapid pace, authorities now face mounting pressure to address the grievances of one of PuneтАЩs largest and most influential professional communities.
