Hinjawadi, 23rd November 2025: The Pimpri Chinchwad police have arrested a mixer driver and the owner of a readymix concrete (RMC) plant in connection with the fatal accident on the ShindevastiтАУMarunji Road that claimed the life of a college student and left another youth critically injured.
The accident occurred on Friday (21), when Rida Imran Khan died on the spot after being struck by an RMC mixer. Her friend Vivek Thakur, 21, a resident of Hadapsar, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment. Police Sub-Inspector Vikas Tagode lodged the complaint, leading to swift action by the Hinjewadi police.
According to the investigation, driver Ajmal Ansari was operating the mixer truck at high speed and in a reckless manner, despite being aware of the narrow road conditions, movement of other vehicles, and the presence of pedestrians. The police have also booked the RMC plant owner, Pandurang Ghule, holding him accountable for failing to exercise control over operations linked to the vehicle, thereby contributing to unsafe conditions. Both individuals have been charged with culpable homicide.
The accident has triggered strong outrage among local residents, who say RMC mixers race through the area at dangerous speeds throughout the day. People living along the ShindevastiтАУMarunji stretch complain that accidents have become routine, with little action taken against illegal RMC plants and negligent driving.
Residents have raised pressing questions: When will the frequent accidents stop? Who will take responsibility for regulating illegal RMC operations? How long will reckless drivers and plant owners continue to operate without accountability?
The community is demanding stricter enforcement and long-term solutions to ensure road safety and prevent further tragedies.
