Pimpri-Chinchwad, 25th November 2025: Despite receiving an updated satellite-based map from the State Land Records Department in July, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has not yet released the recalculated red zone boundaries for the Dehu Road and Dighi areas, leaving thousands of residents in prolonged uncertainty.
The revised map, prepared using satellite imagery, outlines the protected zones around two sensitive defence establishments тАФ a 2,000-metre radius from the outer perimeter of the Dehu Road Ammunition Factory and 1,145 metres from the Dighi Magazine Depot. Construction is strictly prohibited in these zones. However, due to the lack of an officially published map, confusion persists over the exact limits.
The ambiguity has triggered disputes and stalled development across large parts of Talwade, Nigdi, Triveni Nagar, Rupi Nagar, Yamuna Nagar, Ravet, Kivale, Chikhli, Dighi, Bhosari, Vadmukhwadi, Charholi, Dudulgaon and Bopkhel. Lakhs of families remain affected by restrictions imposed since the earlier, unclear boundary markings.
To resolve the dispute, PCMC sought a fresh, precise calculation of the red zone from the Land Records Department with approval from the Defence Ministry. The survey began in February 2024, using satellite tools. PCMC paid Rs 1.13 crore for the exercise. After nearly 18 months of work тАФ including corrections to an initial faulty draft тАФ the department submitted the final map on July 31, 2025.
City residents, however, are growing restless as the map remains unpublished four months later.
Advocate Rajendra Kalbhor from Nigdi said the map must be released without delay. тАЬOnce the boundaries are officially declared, everyone will know exactly which areas fall inside and outside the red zone. People outside the restricted zone will finally get clarity and relief,тАЭ he said.
PCMC officials maintain that the delay is procedural. Deputy Director of Urban Planning, Kishore Gokhale, said the map cannot be published until the Defence Department gives its formal approval.
тАЬWe have forwarded details of what the Corporation intends to publish. As soon as we receive clearance from the Defence authorities, the red zone map will be made public,тАЭ Gokhale said.
Residents hope the final approval comes soon, ending years of confusion over property rights and development permissions in the affected belts.
