Pimpri Chinchwad, 18th December 2025: With air quality in Pimpri-Chinchwad frequently falling into the тАШpoorтАЩ and hazardous categories, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has commissioned a comprehensive study to identify major sources of pollution and recommend effective mitigation strategies. A specialised research institution has been appointed to conduct the study at a cost of тВ╣75 lakh.
The decision comes amid increasing dust and emissions, particularly from construction activities and Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plants, which have significantly affected air quality across the city. As part of the National Clean Air Programme under the 15th Finance Commission, PCMC is implementing multiple initiatives to improve urban air quality.
The appointed institution, affiliated with central government ministries, will carry out a sector-wise assessment of pollution levels in industrial, residential, and commercial zones. The study will document pollution intensity, identify major contributors, and prepare a detailed action plan with specific recommendations for pollution control.
Additionally, the institution will conduct training workshops for municipal officials to strengthen air pollution management. To raise public awareness, PCMC will also launch a 15-day radio campaign costing тВ╣10 lakh, educating citizens about pollution reduction measures and the objectives of the National Clean Air Programme.
Executive Engineer of the Environment Department, Sohan Nikam, said the studyтАЩs findings would help guide targeted civic action to curb pollution and improve overall air quality in the city.
