Pimpri Chinchwad, 18th January 2026: The Pune District Administration has declared a holiday for all schools located along the route of the upcoming international cycling competition, the ‘Pune Grand Tour 2026’, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi issued the official order on Sunday (January 18), citing traffic management and safety concerns as the primary reasons for the closure. The order applies to all government and private schools situated along the specific route designated for the race.
Reason for the Announcement
The holiday has been announced under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, to facilitate the smooth conduct of Stage 1 of the cycling tour. The event is an international competition recognized by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and is being jointly organized by the Pune District Administration, the Cycling Federation of India (CFI).
Affected Areas and Route
According to the notification, the race on January 20 will commence at TCS Circle in Hinjawadi Phase-3. Schools in the vicinity of the following route will remain closed:
- Start: TCS Circle (Hinjawadi Phase-3) → Megapolis Circle → Symphony Society → Bapuji Buwa Mandir.
- Rural & PCMC Limits: The route proceeds through rural areas including Kasar Sai and Nere-Marunji, entering Pimpri-Chinchwad limits via Laxmi Chowk.
- City Areas: Bhumkar Chowk → Dange Chowk (via underpass) → Aditya Birla Hospital → River View Chowk → Walhekarwadi.
- Finish: The stage concludes at Dr. D.Y. Patil College, Akurdi.
The Collector has directed the Education Department and relevant authorities to ensure the immediate implementation of this order to avoid inconvenience to students and parents during the event.
