Pune, 1st February 2026: Union Minister of State for Cooperation and Civil Aviation and Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol, on Sunday, said the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a “strong step towards building a Developed India” and will significantly accelerate Pune and Maharashtra’s growth.
“This Budget is inspired by the ideas of India’s youth and is aimed at investment, innovation and job creation. For Pune, it opens up massive opportunities in infrastructure, industry, technology and mobility,” Mohol said in a statement.
Highlighting the focus on Maharashtra, Mohol said the state will benefit greatly from higher devolution of central taxes and major infrastructure allocations. “Maharashtra will receive nearly ₹1 lakh crore through tax devolution this year. Large investments in metro rail, highways and high-speed corridors will strengthen the state’s position as a manufacturing and economic powerhouse,” he said.
Mohol underlined that the Mumbai–Pune and Pune–Hyderabad high-speed rail corridors will be game changers for western Maharashtra and Marathwada. “These corridors will reduce travel time, boost business travel, tourism, healthcare, education and research. They will also drive rapid, environment-friendly development along the entire belt,” he added.
Pune Growth Hub to get ₹5,000 crore
Focusing on Pune, Mohol said the ‘Pune Growth Hub’ announced in the Budget will receive ₹5,000 crore over five years to drive the region’s all-round development. “This fund will accelerate economic growth across the Pune Metropolitan Region, covering Pune district, PMC, PCMC, three cantonments, seven municipal councils and other strategic areas,” he said.
He said the Pune Growth Hub aims to position the city as a global centre for technology, manufacturing, education, culture, AI and innovation. “This will attract large investments, create jobs and strengthen infrastructure. Pune is being developed as one of India’s key growth engines, and this Budget ensures that the city gets the support it needs,” Mohol said.
Major allocations for Maharashtra and Pune
Mohol also pointed to key Budget allocations, including ₹6,103 crore for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail, ₹1,702 crore for the Mumbai Metro, ₹517 crore for the Pune Metro, ₹462 crore under MUTP-3 for Mumbai, ₹155 crore for green mobility in the MMR region, and ₹680 crore for Intelligent Transport Systems on highways.
“These investments will improve urban mobility, reduce congestion and make cities like Pune more livable and competitive,” he said.
Boost for cooperation and aviation
On the cooperation front, Mohol said tax relief for primary cooperative societies and incentives for national cooperative federations will strengthen the sector financially. “This will reduce double taxation, improve liquidity and allow cooperatives to expand their role in rural and urban development,” he noted.
As Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Mohol welcomed the customs duty exemptions for components used in civil and defence aircraft manufacturing. “These measures will lower production costs, support Make in India, and help India emerge as a global aerospace and defence manufacturing hub. It will also create skilled jobs and reduce dependence on imports,” he said.
Overall, Mohol said the Budget will drive investment, generate employment and take India closer to becoming the world’s third-largest economy. “For Pune, this is a Budget of opportunity, growth and global ambition,” he added.
