Pimpri, 5th February 2026: In a significant milestone for urban public healthcare, three Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) run by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) have secured National Quality Certification under the Government of India’s National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS). With this accomplishment, PCMC has become the first municipal corporation in Maharashtra to receive certification for multiple urban primary health facilities.
The recognised centres are located at Thergaon, Jijamata, and Nehru Nagar, marking a notable advancement in the quality and reliability of civic healthcare services in the city.
Assessment Based on Strict Quality Benchmarks
The certification, granted by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, follows a comprehensive evaluation process covering critical aspects of healthcare delivery, including:
-Infection prevention and control
-Quality of clinical services
-Patient rights and satisfaction
-Hospital administration and management systems
-Ongoing service quality improvement
By meeting these stringent standards, the three health centres demonstrated their commitment to delivering safe, patient-focused, and efficient medical care.
Officials credited the achievement to coordinated efforts led by Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar and Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate. The initiative was supported by Health Medical Officer Dr. Laxman Gofane, Additional Health Medical Officer Dr. Abhaychandra Dadewar, Assistant Health Medical Officers Dr. Anjali Dhone and Dr. Kishori Nalawade, and City Quality Assurance Coordinator Dr. Komal Bansode, along with their respective teams. Contributions from Dr. Chhaya Shinde and Dr. Shailaja Bhavsar were also acknowledged.
Dr. Gofane stated that the recognition reflects the dedication of the entire medical and support staff. He added that the certification further strengthens PCMC’s commitment to providing high-quality, safe, and patient-centric healthcare to residents.
Civic officials noted that this recognition enhances the credibility of PCMC’s public health system and could serve as a model for other urban local bodies seeking to upgrade their primary healthcare services.
