Rahatani, 10th March 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Police Crime Branch, along with the Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) and Kalewadi Police, successfully rescued a businessman who had been kidnapped for a Rs 50 lakh ransom. The victim was being transported to Uttar Pradesh when he was intercepted and saved following a dramatic chase and a tactical trap.
The kidnapping occurred on the evening of March 9, 2026, near the Fountain Hotel in Rahatani. According to the police, five unidentified men in a black Swift car (UP-70-HR-9272) forcibly abducted the victim, Sureshkumar. Shortly after, the kidnappers contacted the victimтАЩs brother, a local businessman, demanding Rs 50 lakh in exchange for SureshkumarтАЩs life. A case was immediately registered at Kalewadi Police Station under sections 140(1), 140(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey and Joint Commissioner Dr. Shashikant Mahavarkar ordered the formation of multiple specialized teams. Through technical analysis and CCTV footage, the police tracked the suspectsтАЩ mobile signals as they moved toward Uttar Pradesh via Ahmednagar.
Coordinating with the Superintendent of Police in Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar), Somnath Gharge, the Pimpri Chinchwad Crime Branch laid a trap at the Sangamner Toll Naka. In a swift tactical operation, the police intercepted the vehicle, rescued the victim unharmed, and apprehended five suspects on the spot.
The arrested suspects have been identified as:

Dilip Mohanlal Saroj (28), Pratapgarh, UP
Rinku Alaguram Saroj (20), Pratapgarh, UP
Anil Girdharilal Saroj (26), Pratapgarh, UP
Mukeshkumar Rammoorti Chamar (24), Pratapgarh, UP
A sixth accomplice, Santan Suresh Chauhan (35), a resident of Kalewadi who acted as the local informant for the gang, was also subsequently arrested. Police seized two country-made pistols, six live cartridges, five mobile phones, and the Swift car, with a total valuation of тАг18,28,000.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of top officials, including CP Vinay Kumar Choubey, Jt CP Dr. Shashikant Mahavarkar, and DCP (Crime) Sandeep Doiphode. The field team, led by Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Patil and featuring officers from the AEC and Anti-Gunda Squad, has been lauded for their coordination and bravery in ensuring the victimтАЩs safe return.
