Pimpri Chinchwad, 27th March 2026: Concerns over rising dust pollution in the Punawale area were raised during the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) budget general meeting held on March 24, 2026.
Corporator Rahul Tanaji Kalate demanded adequate financial provisions and concrete measures to control pollution along with addressing the cityтАЩs water issues.
Speaking during the discussion on the civic bodyтАЩs budget presented by the standing committee chairman, Kalate highlighted that dust pollution in the Punawale area has become a serious concern affecting the health of residents.
The PCMC approved a budget of тВ╣9,322.17 crore for the financial year 2026тАУ27. The budget focuses primarily on infrastructure development, water supply and healthcare. It also reflects an increase of тВ╣414 crore compared to the previous financial year.
During his address, Kalate said the civic administration must take stronger steps to control rising pollution levels while simultaneously addressing water-related issues in the city.
тАЬDust pollution in the Punawale area has become a very serious problem and is directly affecting the health of citizens. Along with resolving water issues, the administration must allocate sufficient funds and implement effective measures to curb increasing pollution,тАЭ Kalate said.
He also pointed out that earlier pollution-control measures taken by the municipal corporation require inspection and maintenance. Kalate noted that the PCMC had installed air purifiers at several junctions across the city, but many of them are currently not functioning.
тАЬFor instance, the air purifier installed at Bhumkar Chowk is not operational. These devices need proper inspection and maintenance so that they can function effectively,тАЭ he added.
Kalate further suggested that the municipal administration should issue clear guidelines to the construction permission department to ensure better control of dust generated from ongoing construction activities.
тАЬClean air and adequate water are fundamental rights of every citizen. The administration must urgently take concrete measures and allocate sufficient funds to address these issues,тАЭ Kalate said during the budget session.
