Pimpri Chinchwad, 8th April 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Wednesday said it will soon implement additional measures to enhance the safety of motorists at the under-construction Rakshak Chowk subway in Pimple Nilakh.
A senior PCMC official said, тАЬThe safety audit of the subway has been completed. Based on the audit, several measures have been suggested to improve motorist safety, and the work to implement these is in its final stages.тАЭ
The safety audit was conducted after Maval Lok Sabha MP Shrirang Barne during his visit to the project site raised concerns over the steep slope on both sides of the flyover, which is part of the project, stating that it could lead to accidents once the project is completed. Civic officials added that the project has been designed in accordance with the standards of the Indian Roads Congress (IRC).
The 420-metre-long subway is aimed at easing traffic congestion at Rakshak Chowk, which has witnessed severe snarls in recent years due to a rise in vehicular movement. Authorities said the project is being implemented as a long-term solution to the persistent congestion at the busy junction.
Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi said the subway will serve as an effective solution to the cityтАЩs growing traffic problems and help save both time and fuel for commuters. тАЬIt will be opened to the public once all safety measures, as per the audit, are fully implemented,тАЭ he said.
