Pimpri Chinchwad, 29th April 29 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Wednesday launched a major demolition drive against encroachments and unauthorised constructions in the Jagtap Dairy to Wakad stretch, sending a strong warning to illegal structure owners across the city.
The action, carried out under the civic bodyтАЩs D Ward office from 10 am onwards, targeted illegal constructions built on both sides of the road in the area. During the operation, authorities removed encroachments spread over 6,945 square metres and demolished 33 unauthorised tin sheds.
Officials said a list of 104 properties in the Wakad area had been prepared for action. Properties protected by court stay orders or conditional stays were excluded, while the remaining unauthorised structures were demolished as per rules.
The drive was conducted on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi and under the guidance of Additional Commissioner Tripti Sandbhor. It was led by D Ward Officer Ashwini Gaikwad along with officials from the encroachment and building departments.
A large enforcement team was deployed for the operation, including 150 civic officials and staff, 104 police personnel and 60 Maharashtra Security Force jawans. Authorities also used 16 JCB machines to clear the structures. A fire brigade vehicle and two ambulances were kept on standby to handle any emergency situation.
The civic administration said the objective of the campaign is to curb rising unauthorised construction and ensure safe, planned urban development for residents.
Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi said strict enforcement of the law was necessary for the sustainable growth of Pimpri Chinchwad and warned that no illegal construction would be tolerated. He added that citizens should follow building norms, failing which strict action would be unavoidable.
