Lonavala, 2nd May 2026: A 12-year-old boy was found dead after allegedly drowning in the Valvan Dam area of Lonavala city, Pune rural police said on Saturday. The child had been missing for the past two days, prompting a search operation by family members, Lonavala City Police, and local rescue volunteers.
The deceased has been identified as Yash Kuldeep Dauneria (12), a resident of Kaivalyadham in Lonavala. His body was recovered on Saturday morning from the backwaters of Valvan Dam.
According to police, Yash had been missing for two days, and a search operation was underway. Around 11 am on Saturday, during the search efforts, his body was spotted in the backwater area of the dam.
Preliminary information suggests that the boy may have gone to the dam for swimming and is suspected to have drowned after misjudging the depth of the water. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed after further investigation.
A report of accidental death has been registered at Lonavala City Police Station based on information provided by the boyтАЩs uncle, Dilip Ravindra Doneria.
Police Inspector Rajesh Ramaghare is supervising the investigation, while Woman Police Constable Bhurkunde is carrying out further probe into the incident.
