Pimpri Chinchwad, 4th May 2026: Power supply issues in Pimpri Chinchwad and parts of Maval are set to be addressed with a series of infrastructure upgrades and new substations planned across the region. The power network is being strengthened keeping in mind the projected population growth over the next 20 years, Shiv Sena MP Shrirang Barne said.
As part of the plan, new substations will be set up in Pimpri, Chinchwad, Thergaon, Ravet and the pilgrimage town of Dehugaon. In addition, extra high voltage (EHV) facilities will be developed in Rahatani, along with the installation of new transformers. A new ultra high voltage substation has also been approved for Tathawade.
Barne shared these details after reviewing ongoing, pending and proposed electricity-related works in the Pimpri, Chinchwad and Maval Assembly segments during a meeting held at the MSEDCL headquarters in Pune. Senior officials, including Regional Director Sunil Kakade, Superintending Engineers Singhjirao Gaikwad and Yuvraj Jarg, along with other engineers and Shiv Sena functionaries, were present.
He said the Mamurdi substation will be strengthened and a 22 kV underground cable line will be laid. Substations in Thergaon, Chinchwad, Ravet and Pimpri are being made operational with multiple works already underway. A new substation is also planned in Dehugaon. The ultra high voltage substation at Tathawade will come up on the Yashada land, where the land acquisition process is currently in progress. Work on the EHV facility in Rahatani is also underway.
Barne further stated that the capacity of the ultra high voltage centre at Ambi in Talegaon MIDC will be increased, for which a proposal has already been prepared. He noted that frequent power outages have led to the initiation of multiple projects to strengthen the electricity network. A fund of Rs 17 crore has been allocated this year through the District Planning Committee for power-related works.
In Maval taluka, extra high voltage centres are already operational at Talegaon Dabhade, Urse, Ambi, Lonavala and Pavananagar. Additionally, low-tension and switching substations are functioning at Nangargaon in Lonavala and at Ambi, Malwadi and Mindewadi in Talegaon Dabhade. These developments have helped ensure a smoother power supply for industrial consumers in the Talegaon MIDC area.
A new ultra high voltage substation has been proposed at Gahunje, which is expected to reduce the load on existing facilities in Talegaon and improve uninterrupted power supply for consumers in Maval taluka. Barne added that the EHV centre at Mindewadi will also help reduce the load on the Chakan Phase II centre, benefiting industries in the Talegaon MIDC area. Work on this project is currently in progress.
