Rahatani, 6th May 2026: Residents of Rahatani–Pimpri Saudagar and surrounding areas are facing increasing distress due to frequent and prolonged power cuts, particularly during peak daytime heat hours. What was once an occasional inconvenience has now turned into a recurring issue, significantly disrupting daily life.
With temperatures soaring across the region, extended electricity outages during the afternoon have made living conditions extremely uncomfortable and, in some cases, unsafe. Children, elderly residents, and individuals with health conditions are especially vulnerable, as the lack of electricity restricts access to cooling systems and proper ventilation, raising the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Adding to the frustration is the absence of communication from authorities. Residents report that there are no prior notifications, no fixed outage schedules, and no official explanations, leaving them unable to plan their routines or manage work commitments effectively.
Devang Dwivedi, a resident of Rahatani, expressed concern, stating,
“The power cuts are increasing rapidly, and there is no clarity on when they will reduce. Even after a full day of outages, night-time power cuts continue. This situation is not acceptable.”
Highlighting the frequency of the issue, Ishan Vyas said,
“This has been happening repeatedly — around five to six times in the last week. Although there was slight relief recently, the problem still continues.”
The situation has also disrupted students preparing for competitive examinations. Nilesh Adinath Saitwal shared his experience, saying,
“My JEE exam preparation was affected due to a sudden power cut. Summer is at its peak, and such outages are not acceptable. Afternoon and evening power cuts are especially concerning.”
Beyond discomfort, erratic electricity supply has begun to impact essential services. Many housing societies depend on electric pumps for water supply, and frequent outages have led to water shortages. Small businesses are also reporting financial losses, while repeated voltage fluctuations have raised concerns about potential damage to electronic appliances.
Despite multiple complaints, residents claim that there has been little to no response from the concerned authorities.
Responding to the issue, Vikas Puri from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited stated that the outages were due to ongoing installation work over the past week. He assured that the issue is being addressed and that residents will soon receive uninterrupted power supply throughout the day.
As Rahatani–Pimpri Saudagar continues to grow as a key residential hub near Pune, residents argue that such recurring infrastructure failures undermine the area’s livability and development. Citizens are now demanding immediate corrective measures, including transparent communication, scheduled load management if unavoidable, and reliable electricity supply during peak summer hours.
