Charholi, 9th May 2026: A major disaster was averted in Pimpri ChinchwadтАЩs Charholi area after a significant leakage of PNG (Piped Natural Gas) was reported at a residential society late on Friday night, putting nearly 200 residents at risk.
The incident occurred at Atlantica Society in Charholi, where residents reportedly noticed a strong smell of gas spreading across the premises around midnight. Panic gripped the society as the leakage raised fears of a possible fire or explosion.
Following an alert from local residents, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Fire Department rushed to the spot and immediately launched emergency measures to control the leakage. Fire personnel managed to stop the PNG gas leak in time, preventing what officials described as a potentially serious mishap.
According to preliminary information, around 200 families residing in the society were exposed to danger due to the gas leak. However, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
The exact cause of the leakage is yet to be ascertained. Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed inspection to determine whether the incident was caused by a technical fault or negligence.
Residents have demanded strict safety audits and regular maintenance of PNG gas infrastructure in residential complexes to avoid similar incidents in the future.
