Pimpri Chinchwad, 16th May 2026: A 17-year-old boy drowned while learning swimming at a civic-run swimming pool in Chinchwad on Friday morning, police said.
The deceased was identified as Shravan Gaikwad, a resident of Rahatani. The incident took place around 11 am at the Vastad Balasaheb Gawade swimming pool, which is operated by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
According to the police, Shravan had gone to the pool with a group of friends and was learning to swim when he drowned.
His friends noticed him struggling in the water and alerted the lifeguards stationed at the facility. He was pulled out of the pool and rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Inspector Ranjit Jadhav of Chinchwad Police Station said an accidental death case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
Police said four lifeguards appointed through a contractor were on duty at the swimming pool when the incident occurred.
