Pimple Nilakh, 23rd May 2026: An accident occurred on the newly inaugurated flyover at Rakshak Chowk on the Aundh-Ravet BRTS Road just a day after its opening, raising concerns over the safety of the structure.
According to reports, a car overturned on the flyover after the driver allegedly lost control due to the steep slope on the bridge. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Member of Parliament Shrirang Barne has blamed the alleged negligence of the municipal administration for the accident and warned that a major mishap could occur in the future if corrective measures are not taken immediately.
Barne said he had earlier inspected the flyover and raised concerns regarding its technical flaws, especially the steep gradient. He claimed that he had alerted the civic administration about the potential danger and warned that accidents could occur due to the sharp slope. However, according to him, the administration ignored the concerns.
The flyover was inaugurated on Friday, and the accident took place on Saturday, just a day later.
Speaking about the incident, Barne said that although there was no loss of life in this accident, the risk of a serious mishap cannot be ruled out if the issue remains unaddressed. He also cautioned that future accidents could resemble major incidents such as those reported at Navale Bridge in Pune.
The MP urged the municipal administration to immediately rectify the slope-related issues on the flyover and prioritise public safety before a major tragedy occurs.
