Pimpri Chinchwad, 4th July 2026: Maharashtra Public Health Minister Dr. Prakash Abitkar on Saturday announced that the Sangvi District Hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad will be upgraded into a Super Speciality Hospital, a move aimed at providing advanced healthcare services to patients from the city and neighbouring rural areas.
The announcement came during the ministerтАЩs visit to the hospital, where he reviewed its infrastructure, medical facilities, and patient services. The visit followed sustained efforts by Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap, who has been pursuing the demand to strengthen the hospital and improve healthcare facilities for the public.
Dr. Abitkar was accompanied by Health Services Commissioner Sanjay Katkar, Joint Director Dr. Sunita Golait, District Civil Surgeon Dr. Ambadas Devmane, and other senior officials. The delegation inspected various departments, reviewed the availability of medicines and medical equipment, and assessed the overall treatment facilities. The minister also directed officials to undertake necessary improvements and implement urgent measures to enhance patient care.
Addressing the media after the inspection, Dr. Abitkar said the hospital already has adequate modern medical equipment, and efforts would be made to ensure its more effective and efficient utilisation.

We will make special efforts, in coordination with MLA Shankar Jagtap, to strengthen the hospitalтАЩs infrastructure and services,тАЭ he said.
The minister said the proposed upgrade would reduce the need for patients from Pimpri-Chinchwad and surrounding rural areas to travel to Mumbai or other major cities for specialised treatment. Once upgraded, the hospital is expected to offer advanced care for serious illnesses such as cardiac diseases, neurological disorders, and kidney ailments under the supervision of specialist doctors.
Welcoming the announcement, MLA Shankar Jagtap said the initiative would greatly benefit economically weaker patients who often struggle to afford treatment at private hospitals.
