Pimpri, 17th October 2025: As the city gears up to celebrate the festival of lights, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Fire Department has launched a proactive ‘Safe Diwali’ campaign to prevent fire-related accidents and promote responsible celebrations. The initiative includes citywide awareness drives, inspections of firecracker stalls, and enhanced emergency preparedness across all fire stations.
“Pimpri Chinchwad is developing rapidly, with rising population density and urban infrastructure. Fire safety must therefore become a shared civic responsibility. The ‘Safe Diwali’ campaign is not just a seasonal effort, but a step towards building a culture of safety and awareness among citizens.” — Pradip Jambhale Patil, Additional Commissioner, PCMC
Over the years, incidents of fire caused by fireworks during Diwali have been a recurring concern in urban areas. To ensure that festivities remain joyful and incident-free, PCMC has appealed to citizens to strictly follow safety guidelines and avoid reckless bursting of firecrackers in congested or residential areas. In case of emergencies, citizens can reach the Fire Control Room by dialling 101, which will remain operational 24×7 throughout the festive period.
“While Diwali is a time of joy and togetherness, it’s also important to celebrate responsibly. Careless handling of fireworks can cause fires and property damage. Through this campaign, we urge citizens to follow the fire department’s safety instructions and make this Diwali both happy and safe.” — Umesh Dhakne, Assistant Commissioner, PCMC
Fire brigade on full alert
Taking into account the increased fire risk during Diwali, all 10 fire stations under PCMC have been placed on high alert. Leaves of fire personnel have been cancelled, and teams will remain on duty round the clock. Fire tenders are patrolling around cracker stalls and market areas to ensure compliance with safety norms. Written and verbal advisories have also been issued to firecracker vendors and residents.
“All fire stations and emergency vehicles have been put on standby. Teams have been briefed to remain extra vigilant during the festive period. Citizens should handle firecrackers carefully and avoid practices that could lead to accidents.” — Rishikant Chipade, Deputy Fire Officer, PCMC
