Pune, 16th November 2025: The Labour Department has issued a show-cause notice to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) over allegations of large-scale employee reduction. The notice seeks a detailed explanation from the company after a complaint was filed by the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES).
A show-cause notice has been issued to TCS in connection with the employee retrenchment complaint, and the hearing will take place on November 18, Deputy Labour Commissioner Nikhil Walke said.
In July, NITES had alleged that TCS planned to cut around 12,000 jobs nationwide, including nearly 2,500 positions in Pune. The organisation claimed that the company had dismissed employees illegally and pressured several of them to resign without compensation. Following these allegations, a formal complaint was lodged with the Labour CommissionerтАЩs office.
Deputy Labour Commissioner Nikhil Walke has now issued a notice to TCS, directing the company to explain its staffing decisions and provide a wide range of documents. These include establishment details, registration papers, work output records, and the recruitment and salary history of the employee referenced in the complaint. TCS has also been asked to clarify the type of termination involvedтАФwhether resignation, dismissal or retrenchmentтАФand furnish data on its current workforce and the exact date of separation of the affected employee.
Officials said the next hearing in the case is scheduled for November 18.
NITES has claimed that it has received a surge in complaints from TCS employees across multiple locations, alleging forced resignations and lack of severance benefits. The organisation said it is working to support affected employees and ensure compliance with labour laws.
