Pimpri, 2nd January 2026: In a major enforcement action ahead of New Year celebrations, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police booked 240 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol during a special traffic drive conducted across the city, officials said on Wednesday.
The operation was carried out on the instructions of Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey and under the supervision of Joint Commissioner of Police Dr Rashikant Mahavarikar and Additional Commissioner of Police Sarang Aawad, in line with directives issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vivek Patil.
As part of the drive, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Branch deployed teams from 13 traffic divisions, setting up 47 checkpoints across the commissionerateтАЩs jurisdiction. During the checks, police detected 220 two-wheeler riders and 20 four-wheeler drivers who were found driving after consuming alcohol.
Cases have been registered against all 240 offenders under the relevant тАШdrunk and driveтАЩ provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, and the accused are being produced before the court, police officials said.
Authorities stated that such enforcement drives will continue in the coming days to curb reckless and dangerous driving. Motorists have been advised to refrain from driving after consuming alcohol and to strictly follow traffic regulations to avoid accidents and legal consequences.
