Pune, 15th March 2026: Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Mayor Ravi Landge on Saturday launched the “Dust-Free Pimpri-Chinchwad” campaign, aiming to curb rising dust pollution in the twin-city industrial belt through stricter enforcement and public participation.
The was launched amid persistent complaints from residents about airborne dust generated from ongoing construction activities, heavy vehicular movement, unpaved roads, and traffic congestion at key junctions.
During a spot inspection in the Punawale area on Sunday, Mayor Landge visited busy traffic points where dust accumulation has been a long-standing grievance. He also addressed an awareness meeting at 7 Plumeria Drive Society, where he formally flagged off the campaign.
The civic officials said the drive will focus on multiple measures, including intensified water sprinkling on roads, mandatory use of anti-smog guns and dust suppression systems at construction sites, mechanical sweeping of major thoroughfares, and development of green belts along arterial roads. The civic body plans to enforce existing norms more rigorously under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), with regular monitoring and penalties for violators.
Mayor Landge directed various PCMC departments to prioritise dust control operations and involve citizens in reporting non-compliance, such as uncovered construction material or open debris dumping. “Reducing dust is essential for public health, especially in densely populated and industrial pockets,” he said, stressing the campaign’s role in making the city cleaner and more livable.
The “Dust-Free Pimpri-Chinchwad” campaign will be implemented in phases across the city, with periodic reviews to assess progress, said a senior civic official. PCMC has appealed to residents, builders, and transport operators to cooperate and adhere to anti-dust guidelines.
