Pimpri-Chinchwad, 25th March 2026: A disagreement over fare in an app-based auto ride escalated into violence in Pimpri-Chinchwad, with a senior citizen and his family allegedly assaulted by the driver following an argument over charges.
According to police, the incident occurred on March 15 in the Vallabhnagar area shortly after the passengers reached their destination. The auto had been booked through a ride-hailing platform, but a dispute arose when the driver allegedly demanded a higher fare than what was displayed on the application.
Officials said tensions escalated when the passengerтАЩs son questioned the additional amount. In the ensuing altercation, the driver allegedly picked up a wooden plank from the vehicle and attacked him, causing head injuries. The elderly complainant was also reportedly assaulted and sustained injuries to his chest and nose.
Family members present at the spot tried to intervene, but the accused allegedly pushed aside the victimтАЩs daughter-in-law before fleeing the scene.
A complaint has been filed by the 69-year-old victim at the Sant Tukaram Nagar Police Station. Based on his statement, police have registered a case against the unidentified driver and launched a search to trace him.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over disputes involving app-based transport services in the Pune region, particularly regarding fare discrepancies. Authorities have urged both drivers and commuters to adhere strictly to app-indicated fares and report any violations to prevent such incidents.
