Pimpri Chinchwad, 20th April 2026: An unusual scene unfolded outside the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) headquarters on Sunday when BJP leaders protesting over the WomenтАЩs Reservation Bill briefly ended up raising slogans against their own government before quickly realising the mistake.
The protest was organised after the INDIA alliance allegedly opposed the Nari Shakti Vandan Bill, prompting BJP demonstrations in several parts of the country.
Ahead of the general body meeting of the civic body on Monday, BJP corporators adopted an aggressive stand and staged a protest. Several women corporators attended the session wearing black sarees as a symbolic mark of dissent.
As tensions rose inside the house, the meeting was adjourned. Soon after, Mayor Ravi Landge, MLC Uma Khapre, ruling party leader Prashant Shitole and several other elected representatives gathered near the main entrance of the municipal headquarters and began slogan shouting against the INDIA alliance.
Slogans such as тАЬWhat should be done with this INDIA alliance?тАЭ echoed outside the building.
However, in the middle of the protest, a surprising mix-up occurred when ruling party leader Prashant Shitole allegedly shouted, тАЬWhat should be done with this government?тАЭ instead of targeting the opposition alliance. It may be noted that BJP is in power in both state and central government.
Responding in chorus, Mayor Ravi Landge, Uma Khapre and others reportedly followed with the slogan, тАЬHead down, legs up,тАЭ creating a brief moment where BJP leaders appeared to be protesting against their own ruling government.
Realising the error, Shitole immediately tried to correct himself and changed the slogan. But by then, those present had noticed the slip-up, triggering laughter and widespread discussion. Shitole, a former NCP leader joined BJP a few days before civic elections earlier this year.
The incident soon became a talking point in local political circles, with some observers remarking that ShitoleтАЩs earlier experience in the opposition may have contributed to the slogan mix-up.
The episode added an unexpected twist to an otherwise politically charged protest at the civic headquarters.
