Pimpri-Chinchwad, 2nd May 2026: Three young men from Bhosari drowned while attempting to take a selfie at Jadhavwadi dam in Maval taluka of Pune district on Friday. In a separate incident on the same day, another youth lost his life after drowning in the Pavana river, taking the total death toll to four and leaving the region in shock.
According to information received, the deceased at Jadhavwadi dam have been identified as Ajay Garude, Aniket Pawar, and Santosh Yedke. All three were residents of Bhosari in Pimpri-Chinchwad and worked at a private company in Bhosari MIDC. Originally from Parbhani, they had gone to Maval along with friends to spend their day off.
The incident occurred around 3 pm when the group reached the dam area. Due to the intense heat, they decided to enter the water. While initially everything was normal, the youths attempted to take a selfie while standing in the water, placing their arms around each otherтАЩs shoulders.
During this, one of them reportedly slipped into a deep pit. In an attempt to rescue him, the other two were also pulled in by the strong undercurrent. Within moments, all three drowned before the eyes of their friends.
After hearing the commotion, locals and rescue teams rushed to the spot. A search operation was carried out by teams of Maval wildlife rescuers and Shivdurg organisation, who later retrieved the bodies from the water.
In another incident reported the same day, Manoj Bharat Gautam drowned in the Pavana river while swimming.
