Pimpri, 6th May 2026: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched a detailed inquiry into alleged disbursal of ₹60 crore through 17 “bogus sub-proposals” without approval from the Standing Committee and General Body. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi has said strict action will be taken once the investigation report is submitted.
“An inquiry is underway into payments worth ₹60 crore made through sub-proposals without approval of the Standing Committee and General Body. It is being verified whether the works were actually executed and to what extent. Four city engineers are conducting the probe, and the final report will be submitted soon. Action will definitely be taken against those found responsible,” Dr. Suryawanshi said.
The issue dominated the adjourned April General Body meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Mayor Ravi Landge, with corporators across party lines demanding accountability.
Corporator Yogita Nagargoje said, “Payments have been made for development works, but the method adopted is wrong. This should not be termed a scam.”
However, Corporator Rahul Kalate questioned the process, stating, “The sub-proposals bear the signature of the leader of the House. It must be clarified whether this is corruption or a procedural lapse. Action must be taken against the concerned officials.”
Raising concerns over authenticity, Vaishali Ghodke said, “Some corporators are claiming they did not sign these sub-proposals. A fraud case should be registered.”
Alleging a larger conspiracy, Sulabha Ubale said, “The ₹60 crore payments through sub-proposals amount to a scam. This is not the act of a single accounts officer; there appears to be involvement of outsiders. Sub-proposals cannot be approved without due sanction. This is a legal violation and a criminal case should be filed.”
NCP corporator Yogesh Behl remarked, “Whenever corruption is discussed, BJP corporators assume it is targeting an MLA, which is not correct.”
Corporator Sandeep Waghere also demanded registration of a criminal offence.
Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne admitted procedural lapses, stating, “Payments were made through sub-proposals without approval of the Standing Committee and General Body. The process is incorrect. The Chief Accounts and Finance Officer is responsible.”
Leader of Opposition Bhausaheb Bhoir made strong allegations, saying, “₹60 crore has been systematically given to contractors through bogus sub-proposals. This is nothing short of a major loot.”
BJP corporator Shatrughan Kate said, “Due to administrative errors, BJP corporators are being defamed. The truth must come out and those responsible must face action.”
Leader of the House Prashant Shitole added, “The payment process is incorrect. Those violating rules must be held accountable.” Mayor Ravi Landge directed the administration to submit a detailed report at the earliest and initiate action against those found guilty.
Law and Order Concerns Also Raised
Corporators also raised concerns over rising crimes against minor girls. Referring to a recent case in Nasrapur in Bhor taluka, where a three-and-a-half-year-old girl was assaulted and murdered, members strongly condemned the incident. A similar case was also reported from the Kalewadi area.
Corporator Vinod Nadhe alleged police insensitivity, saying, “When a complaint was filed, police asked complainants to bring witnesses in a rude manner.” Prashant Shitole also criticised police functioning.
Mayor Ravi Landge assured that a meeting with the Police Commissioner will be held within two days to review the law and order situation in the city.
Warning to Civic Officials
Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi issued strict instructions to officials, stating, “Officers must respond to corporators’ queries. Arrogant behaviour will not be tolerated. There will be no discrimination between government and municipal officials.”
The administration is now awaiting the inquiry report, which is expected to determine accountability in the ₹60 crore payment case.
