Pimpri Chinchwad, 22nd May 2026: The long-awaited flyover at Rakshak Chowk in Pimple Nilakh was opened to traffic after the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) expedited pending technical and safety clearances following a demand by Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap.
The flyover, aimed at easing congestion on one of the busiest junctions in the area, had remained closed despite completion of construction work, leading to daily traffic snarls and long delays for commuters, local residents and traders.
Jagtap had written to the municipal commissioner urging the administration to complete the required safety audit and technical inspections at the earliest and open the flyover for public use. Following the intervention, the civic administration completed the formalities and allowed vehicular movement on the bridge.
Civic officials said the opening of the flyover is expected to improve connectivity between Aundh, Sangvi Phata, Ravet and Kiwale, while also reducing congestion on the Aundh BRTS road stretch.
Shankar Jagtap said thousands of commuters had been facing inconvenience due to delays in opening the flyover even after construction was completed.
тАЬCitizens were wasting both time and fuel because of the traffic congestion. After we raised the issue with the civic administration, the process was expedited. The flyover will now make travel between Aundh, Sangvi, Ravet and Kiwale smoother and signal-free,тАЭ he said.
He added that work on the underpass in the area was also progressing and efforts were being made to complete it at the earliest.
Residents and motorists from Pimple Nilakh welcomed the opening of the flyover and said it would help ease traffic congestion in the locality.
