Nigdi, 26th May 2026: A fake board claiming limited fuel supply under government orders at a petrol pump in the Nigdi area of Pimpri-Chinchwad triggered panic among citizens and sparked rumours of a petrol and diesel shortage in the city.
The misleading board, displayed at a petrol pump in Nigdi, stated that fuel would be supplied only in limited quantities as per government instructions. Photos of the board soon went viral on social media, prompting several vehicle owners to rush to petrol pumps to fill their tanks fearing a fuel shortage.
However, the Petrol Dealers Association has clarified that neither the government nor the local administration has issued any order restricting fuel sales.
Reacting to the incident, Dhruv Ruparel, president of the Petrol Diesel Association, said the association had no connection with the viral message or the petrol pump involved.
тАЬWe have not taken any such decision. No notice or order has been issued by the government or local administration regarding restricted fuel sales. We investigated the viral photo and found that the concerned petrol dealer is not a member of our association,тАЭ Ruparel said.
According to the association, the board may have been put up by the petrol pump operator for local stock management or some private reason, but presenting it as a тАЬgovernment orderтАЭ was misleading and illegal.
Officials warned that such rumours could lead to unnecessary crowding at petrol pumps and may even create conditions for black marketing of fuel.
The association has appealed to citizens not to believe false messages or indulge in panic buying, assuring that fuel supply across Pimpri-Chinchwad remains normal and uninterrupted.
