Pimpri Chinchwad, 30th May 2026: Pimpri Chinchwad Mayor Ravi Landge has urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) not to demolish the existing Bhosari flyover, which is proposed to be removed as part of the planned metro corridor between Nashik Phata and Chakan.
The demand comes after metro authorities submitted a revised proposal under which the flyover is slated for demolition to facilitate the metro project. At the same time, NHAI is planning a direct elevated corridor between Nashik Phata and Khed-Rajgurunagar aimed at easing congestion on the Pune-Nashik highway.
Landge raised the issue during a review meeting with NHAI Project Director Sanjay Kadam to discuss pending highway-related projects, traffic congestion, monsoon preparedness and key infrastructure works affecting Pimpri Chinchwad residents.
During the meeting, discussions were held on traffic bottlenecks along the Pune-Nashik highway, the status of the proposed Nashik Phata-Khed elevated corridor, widening of service roads along the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway, road repairs, measures at accident-prone locations, drainage infrastructure, waterlogging on highways and underpasses during the monsoon, and encroachments affecting traffic movement.
NHAI officials also briefed the mayor on proposed flyovers, underpass repairs, service road construction and widening works along the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway. Landge sought expedited completion of projects in Wakad, Punawale, Tathawade, Ravet, Kiwale and other areas that frequently face traffic congestion and waterlogging.
The mayor strongly opposed the demolition of the Bhosari flyover and also objected to any additional land acquisition in the Bhosari gaothan area. The acquisition in gaothan areas is needed for an elevated corridor. He said development projects should not come at the cost of inconvenience or injustice to local residents, traders and businesses.
Emphasising the need to balance infrastructure development with public interest, Landge said the concerns of residents and the impact on traffic movement must be taken into consideration before any decision is taken on the flyover.
NHAI Project Director Sanjay Kadam assured the mayor that the issues raised during the meeting would be examined and that priority would be given to works affecting public convenience and safety.
“There can be no compromise on issues concerning the interests of Pimpri Chinchwad residents. Reducing traffic woes, improving road infrastructure and ensuring timely completion of development projects remain our priorities. The sentiments of citizens will be paramount while taking any decision regarding the Bhosari flyover and land acquisition in the gaothan area,” Landge said.
The mayor added that the civic body and NHAI would continue to coordinate closely on highway development projects and hold regular review meetings to accelerate pending works and address infrastructure-related concerns across the city.
