Pimpri Chinchwad, 16th Jun 2016: Housing society residents in Pimpri Chinchwad have expressed disappointment over the absence of any discussion on key society-related issues during the recent General Body meeting of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), despite concerns over new waste management norms and taxation on common amenities.
Residents pointed out that under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, housing societies will be required to process and dispose of wet waste within their premises from July 1. Alongside this, the civic bodyтАЩs decision to levy tax on amenities in residential societies has triggered concern among apartment owners, who fear an additional financial burden.
Despite the potential impact of these measures on thousands of residents across the city, none of the corporators raised the issues during the General Body meeting held on Monday, prompting criticism from housing society representatives.
Several societies are reportedly struggling to understand how they will comply with the mandatory wet waste processing requirement and have sought greater clarity from the civic administration regarding implementation, infrastructure support and enforcement mechanisms.
Against this backdrop, residents have begun discussing the need to organise and collectively pursue their demands, with many arguing that housing societies can no longer depend solely on elected representatives to take up their concerns.
тАЬThe issues directly affect the daily lives of citizens. We expected our elected representatives to raise these concerns in the General Body. Instead, there was complete silence. Residents are now questioning whether those they elected are genuinely concerned about their problems,тАЭ said Sanjivan Sangale, president of the Chikhli-Moshi-Pimpri Chinchwad Housing Society Federation.
