Pimpri Chinchwad, 7th August 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has issued a notice to the contractor executing the long-delayed Dairy Farm flyover project at Pimpri after the bridge failed to meet its completion deadline for the third time. The civic body has warned that a penalty will be imposed from September 1 if the work remains incomplete.
The flyover, being constructed near the Dairy Farm area in Pimpri, is considered a key infrastructure project aimed at easing traffic congestion on the Pune-Mumbai highway and eliminating delays caused by the railway level crossing. Civic officials said nearly 80% of the work has been completed, but several hurdles have delayed the projectтАЩs completion.
The 1,290-metre-long and 17.20-metre-wide flyover is being built by PCMC at an estimated cost of Rs 66.28 crore. The project was awarded to M/s T&T Infra and a work order was issued on 31 March 2023.
Officials said the original completion period of 24 months, ending in March 2025, could not be met due to delays in obtaining approvals from the Railways and the relocation of overhead electrical equipment (OHE), besides the time taken for approvals and fund transfers from the Forest Department.
The project was first granted an extension until November 30, 2025. As work still remained incomplete, a second extension was given until April 30, 2026, followed by a third extension that has now expired.
PCMC Executive Engineer Vijay Bhojne said the contractor has been instructed to complete the remaining work within August. тАЬConsidering the obstacles encountered during construction, the contractor was granted multiple extensions. However, if the work is not completed by August-end, penalty will be imposed from September 1. A notice has also been issued to the contractor,тАЭ he said.
According to civic officials, construction was delayed due to multiple technical and administrative issues. These included the felling of trees, obtaining permissions from the Railways, shifting of OHE infrastructure, and delays in receiving approvals and fund transfers from the Forest Department. Despite these challenges, officials said construction has now entered its final phase.
Once operational, the flyover is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the Pimpri area, particularly for vehicles travelling between Pimpri Camp, Pimpri village, and the Pune-Mumbai highway. It will also eliminate delays caused by the railway crossing and improve connectivity for commuters travelling through the busy Dairy Farm junction.
