Pimpri Chinchwad, 25th August 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has consistently failed to provide basic infrastructure such as roads, streetlights, drainage, stormwater management, waste collection and sanitation in the Bhosari and other industrial areas of Pimpri Chinchwad MIDC, alleged Abhay Bhor, president of the Forum of Small Scale Industries Association.
Bhor has urged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Industries Minister Uday Samant to transfer the entire responsibility for basic infrastructure in the industrial areas from PCMC to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).
Industries in the Bhosari MIDC area have been paying substantial revenue to the civic body through property tax and other taxes for several years. However, entrepreneurs have expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of corresponding basic amenities, Bhor said. Poor road conditions, inadequate or non-functional streetlights, clogged drainage systems, waterlogging during the monsoon and irregular garbage collection continue to affect the industrial areas, he said.
тАЬIndustrial areas are a major pillar of the cityтАЩs economy and employment. Industries are regularly taxed, but they do not receive quality basic infrastructure in return. The civic body appears to be completely neglecting the industrial areas,тАЭ Bhor said.
He said PCMC had established a separate тАШIndustry CellтАЩ following repeated demands from the association to address issues faced by industrial units. However, regular meetings of the cell have reportedly not been held for the past one to one-and-a-half years.
тАЬSetting up a separate mechanism for industries and then allowing it to remain inactive is a serious matter. It reflects the administrationтАЩs neglect of the industrial sector,тАЭ Bhor said.
At present, entrepreneurs are often referred to either PCMC or MIDC depending on the nature of their complaint, resulting in unclear accountability and delays in resolving issues, he said. The association has therefore demanded that MIDC be designated as the single authority responsible for roads, drainage, streetlights, waste management, stormwater drainage and maintenance in the industrial areas.
According to Bhor, inadequate infrastructure is affecting production, transportation, worker safety, investment and the competitiveness of industries. If these problems persist, more companies could consider shifting to other industrial areas, potentially affecting employment and the local economy.
Bhor has urged the chief minister and industries minister to convene an urgent joint meeting of senior officials from MIDC, the Industries Department and PCMC, fix clear responsibility for infrastructure in the industrial areas and take a permanent policy decision.
The association has also sought a separate action plan for roads, streetlights, drainage, waste management and stormwater disposal, resumption of regular Industry Cell meetings and improvement of industrial infrastructure to prevent companies from relocating and attract fresh investment.
