Pimpri-Chinchwad, 27th November 2025: A dramatic late-night police chase on the old MumbaiтАУPune Highway ended with a gunshot being fired at a crime branch team near the Somatane Phata toll plaza early Thursday. No injuries were reported, and police later arrested three men with a history of serious criminal offences.
The police action was part of an intensified crackdown on burglary and vehicle theft cases in the Pimpri-Chinchwad region. Acting on specific intelligence, officers from the Crime Branch Unit 2 tracked down a grey Maruti Suzuki Celerio suspected to be used by the accused.
According to officials, the vehicle was intercepted at around 5.30 am after two police teams strategically positioned themselves along the suspected route. The suspects fired from inside the car in an attempt to flee. A bullet pierced the vehicleтАЩs roof, narrowly missing officers.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Dr Shivaji Pawar said the accused were linked to a recent burglary registered with Ravet Police Station. тАЬOur teams had information that the suspects were travelling towards Talegaon Dabhade in a stolen Celerio. When signalled to stop, one of the men fired at our officers. A police constable showed quick reflexes and managed to disrupt the attack, preventing casualties,тАЭ he stated.
