Pune, 7th December 2025: After briefly rising to 14.9°C—1.4°C above normal—the minimum temperature in Pune has started to drop again. On Sunday, December 7, Shivajinagar recorded a low of 12.9°C, while Malin in the district reported the coldest at 11.8°C. Several other areas also experienced a noticeable fall in temperatures.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and independent weather experts have predicted that night temperatures will continue to decline until December 11. Former IMD Pune forecasting head Anupam Kashyapi said, “Cold northerly winds entering Maharashtra from northern India are likely to pull down temperatures. North and Central Maharashtra, including Pune, may experience cold-wave-like conditions.”
Experts have also warned that the dropping temperatures could increase respiratory problems, as poor atmospheric ventilation may worsen air pollution levels.
According to Sameer App of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Pune’s overall air quality index (AQI) stands at 175, which falls in the moderate category. However, at least four monitoring stations recorded poor air quality, with AQI above 200. Revenue Colony, Shivajinagar, logged the highest at 264, followed by Hadapsar (245), MHADA Colony, Lohegaon (233), and Bhumkar Nagar, Pimpri (204). Other areas remained in the moderate range, with AQI above 100—levels that can be harmful with prolonged exposure.
