Pimpri-Chinchwad, 17th December 2025: With municipal elections approaching, political activity has intensified in Pimpri-Chinchwad as major parties step up efforts to strengthen their local leadership. Both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) are actively engaging with influential leaders ahead of the civic polls.
Amid these developments, former corporator Rahul Tanaji Kalate has been at the centre of political discussions following reports that multiple parties had approached him for a possible induction. While sources indicate that the NCP had initiated contact, Kalate has recently held a series of meetings with senior BJP leaders, including state BJP president Ravindra Chavan.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Kalate is likely to formally join the BJP on Wednesday in Mumbai. The event is expected to take place in the presence of senior BJP leaders, including Chandrakant Patil and Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol. However, there has been no official confirmation from the party so far.
When contacted, Kalate refrained from making a direct statement on his political move.
Responding to queries, he said, “What you are thinking is exactly what will happen,” without offering further details.
Kalate, a former corporator of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), served as a group leader for five years and has been known for his active role in civic politics. He also contested the recent Assembly elections as an independent candidate and is associated with the Sharad Pawar-led faction.
As an opposition corporator, Kalate frequently raised issues related to civic infrastructure and urban development. He has been vocal on concerns such as poor road conditions in Wakad, Tathawade and Punawale, water scarcity, city development planning, rising road accidents, and delays in bridge construction.
If confirmed, Kalate’s entry into the BJP is expected to influence political equations in Pimpri-Chinchwad ahead of the municipal elections. Observers are closely watching how his role may evolve within the ruling party and how previously raised civic issues will be addressed going forward.
