Pimpri Chinchwad, 22nd June 2026: In a major boost to higher education in the Pimpri Chinchwad region, the Maharashtra Cabinet has approved a proposal to allot government land free of cost for setting up a campus of the NagpurтАЩs Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Moshi.
The decision is expected to pave the way for the establishment of an extended campus of IIM Nagpur in the industrial township, a move that is likely to benefit students from Pimpri Chinchwad and neighbouring areas.
The proposal had been actively pursued by BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, who had repeatedly raised the demand with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, the district administration and the revenue department had earlier expressed support for the project. With the CabinetтАЩs approval, the project has now moved a step closer to implementation.
According to officials, the Moshi site was chosen considering its strategic location and connectivity to major urban centres such as Pune and Mumbai. The regionтАЩs vast industrial belt and growing IT sector were also key factors in the selection of the site.
The proposed IIM campus is expected to strengthen Pimpri ChinchwadтАЩs position as an emerging educational destination while complementing its industrial and technological growth.
Welcoming the Cabinet decision, MLA Mahesh Landge said, тАЬOur resolve is to make Pimpri Chinchwad one of the countryтАЩs leading education hubs, and the IIM project has provided the biggest impetus to that vision. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has extended positive support from the very beginning and has accelerated this dream by approving free land for the institution in the Cabinet meeting. This confluence of industry, IT and higher education will lay the foundation for the cityтАЩs bright future.тАЭ
