Pimpri-Chinchwad, 30th January 2026: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has begun preparations for the return of elected representatives after nearly four years of functioning under administrative rule, marking a transition back to a democratically led civic body.
With the MayorтАЩs election scheduled for February 6, civic authorities are working to restore and prepare official chambers that had remained closed or repurposed during the administrative period. Key office spaces, along with the General Body Hall, are currently being cleaned, refurbished, and made ready for renewed political and civic activity.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged with 84 seats, ensuring its continuation in power for a second consecutive term. BJP corporators are expected to occupy major leadership roles, including Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Leader of the House, Standing Committee Chairperson, and heads of subject committees such as Education, Law, Women and Child Welfare, City Improvement, and Sports. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is likely to take up the post of Leader of the Opposition.
During the years of administrative governance, several chambers on the third floor of the municipal headquarters were reassigned for use by senior officials. Offices originally designated for elected office-bearers, including those of the Leader of the House, Leader of the Opposition, Deputy Mayor, and committee chairpersons, were utilized for administrative operations. Instructions have now been issued to vacate these spaces to accommodate the incoming representatives.
The MayorтАЩs chamber and the Standing Committee ChairpersonтАЩs office, which remained locked for an extended period, are also being reopened and prepared. Simultaneously, arrangements are underway to deploy essential support staff such as personal assistants, clerks, drivers, and peons, with around 35 personnel expected to be assigned to the newly active offices.
Officials currently occupying these chambers, including deputy commissioners and special officers, will be shifted to alternative locations within the civic premises. Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate confirmed that a meeting of the chamber allocation committee will soon be held to finalize the office redistribution.
The reopening of these administrative spaces signals the restoration of an elected civic leadership in Pimpri-Chinchwad, with increased public engagement and political activity anticipated at the municipal headquarters in the coming weeks.
