Pune, 27th March 2026: Divisional commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar has directed authorities to hold monthly meetings at the ward level to resolve water supply complaints across Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) areas.
He issued the instructions during a meeting of a committee formed following a public interest litigation heard by the Bombay high court on April 10, 2023.
Senior officials, including Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi, PMRDA commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari, Pune Municipal Corporation additional commissioner Pavneet Kaur, and other officials and representatives of housing societies, were present.
Pulkundwar said authorities must ensure adequate water supply to all housing societies and conduct regular reviews. He also directed officials to arrange water tankers as required and strictly enforce the Maharashtra Groundwater Act, making it mandatory to obtain permission for borewells.
He further instructed that water supply assurance certificates be uploaded on official portals and that strict action be taken against tankers supplying contaminated water.
Suryawanshi said water-related issues are being taken up on priority and monthly review meetings will be held. He added that work on projects such as Bhama Askhed and Pavana pipelines has been initiated for Pimpri Chinchwad. He urged housing federations to inform the civic body if developers fail to supply assured water or if contaminated water is being supplied through tankers, assuring action against violators.
Chaudhari said that while PMRDA does not have a dedicated mechanism for water testing like municipal corporations, steps will be taken at the local level test the quality of water. He also assured that complaints related to building permissions and occupancy will be addressed. Representatives of various housing federations, who were also present for the meeting raised their concerns during the meeting.
