Pimpri Chinchwad, 28th March 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi has warned of strict action against developers who fail to provide water supply to flat owners despite giving written assurances before handing over possession of the flats.
Suryawanshi said builders who have submitted undertaking letters committing to arrange water supply must fulfil their obligations. He cautioned that any attempt to evade responsibility or shift the financial burden of water supply onto housing societies would invite legal action.
The remarks were made during a recent meeting of a committee constituted following a public interest litigation order by the Bombay High Court dated April 10, 2023. The meeting, chaired by Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar, was attended by senior officials from PCMC, Pune Municipal Corporation and PMRDA.
Officials reviewed water shortage issues faced by housing societies in Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune. The officials mentioned in the meeting that due to incomplete projects such as the Bhama Askhed and Andra water supply schemes, it is currently not possible to ensure 100% water supply to all the areas of the city.
Pulkundwar emphasised that developers must strictly adhere to written commitments made at the time of possession. He directed civic bodies to initiate legal action in cases where builders fail to comply or pass on costs to residents.
The meeting also discussed making all No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and developersтАЩ undertakings publicly available on municipal websites to ensure transparency and allow residents to verify whether their societies are covered under specific water supply schemes.
Commissioner Suryawanshi urged citizens facing water supply issues to lodge complaints with the civic bodyтАЩs water supply department. He added that developers will remain responsible for providing water until major projects like Bhama Askhed become fully operational.
