Pimpri-Chinchwad, 7th April 2026: Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) has prepared a revised detailed plan for the proposed metro corridor between Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Nigdi and Chakan, a project considered crucial for improving connectivity between Pimpri-Chinchwad and the Chakan industrial belt.
The proposed corridor will span 40.926 km and is expected to have 31 stations. Of these, 25 stations will be located within Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal limits, while six will fall under the jurisdiction of the Chakan Municipal Council. The project is estimated to cost тВ╣10,383.89 crore.
At present, metro services operate between Dapodi and Pimpri, while extension work is underway up to Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Nigdi. The NigdiтАУChakan corridor is planned as the second phase of metro expansion in the region.
The initial plan was submitted to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in August last year and was presented to public representatives, including then Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, in September. Several changes have been incorporated into the revised proposal based on their suggestions.
Key recommendations included increasing the train capacity from three coaches to six, modifying the route alignment via Talawade Chowk to Chakan MIDC, considering alternative alignments through Nashik Phata and Bhosari, and improving passenger convenience at interchange points such as Bhujbal Chowk and Wakad. The plan also proposes the development of parking facilities near metro stations.
According to the revised alignment, the corridor will pass through several important locations including Bhakti-Shakti Chowk, Ravet, Punawale, Tathawade, Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Nashik Phata, Bhosari MIDC, Moshi, Alandi Phata, and Chakan. Bhosari has now been included in the updated route.
MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar said the revised plan will be presented before the mayor and corporators. Further steps will be taken after obtaining approval from the municipal corporation.
