Pune, 7th May 2026: After the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) released lists of unauthorised schools operating within city limits, the Pune Zilla Parishad has now published a consolidated list of unauthorised schools across Pune district, including Pune city, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and rural areas.
According to the district administration, a total of 45 unauthorised schools have been identified across Pune district. Of these, 12 schools are located within PMC limits, nine within PCMC limits, and 24 in rural parts of the district.
Officials revealed that among the 24 unauthorised schools in rural areas, 13 schools do not have government recognition, while 11 schools have approval but are allegedly operating from locations other than their originally sanctioned premises.
The action comes ahead of the 2026-27 academic year, with schools set to reopen in June. Authorities said it was noticed that some institutions were advertising admissions despite lacking final government approval.
Based on reports submitted by administrative officers of PMC, PCMC, and Group Education Officers, the Pune Zilla Parishad prepared and released the consolidated list of unauthorised schools.
Pune Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Gajanan Patil said that within PMC limits, 12 schools have been declared unauthorised. Of these, three schools have only received тАЬletters of intentтАЭ but are yet to obtain final government approval.
Similarly, in the PCMC area, nine schools have been identified as unauthorised. One of these schools has received a letter of intent but has not received final government recognition. Patil said a case has also been registered as per government regulations.
He further warned that if unauthorised schools continue operating in any area, responsibility would be fixed on the concerned local field officers.
According to the district administration, the breakdown of unauthorised schools is as follows:
Total unauthorised schools in Pune district: 45
PMC limits: 12 unauthorised schools, including three schools with only letters of intent and no final approval
PCMC limits: Nine unauthorised schools, including one school with a letter of intent but no final approval
Pune rural areas: 24 unauthorised schools, of which 13 have no government recognition and 11 are operating from unauthorised relocated premises despite having approval for different locations.
