Pimpri Chinchwad, 18th May 2026: Dhruv Ruparel, President of the Petrol Dealers Association in Pune, has strongly dismissed recent rumors claiming that 80% of petrol pumps in Pimpri-Chinchwad are running dry. In a recent public address, Ruparel clarified that the fuel supply from oil companies remains entirely uninterrupted and urged citizens not to engage in panic buying.
Addressing the viral messages that have triggered anxiety among residents, Ruparel explained the logistical reality of fuel distribution in the region. He noted that the Pune district houses over 1,000 petrol pumps in total, with approximately 250 in Pimpri-Chinchwad and 200 in Pune city. Fuel for both areas is centrally supplied from the Loni Kalbhor and nearby terminals. He emphasized that if Pimpri-Chinchwad were genuinely facing an 80% shortage, the resulting overflow of demand would have immediately strained Pune cityтАЩs pumpsтАФa situation that has simply not occurred.
The spread of false reports on social media and in certain publications, which falsely claimed that fuel stocks would last for only two days, led to sudden panic buying across the city. Consequently, petrol pumps witnessed unnecessary crowding. This sudden, artificial surge in demand prematurely exhausted the daily available stock at some outlets, creating a temporary, self-inflicted scarcity.
Ruparel reassured the public that oil companies are delivering fuel smoothly and without any volume cuts. тАЬI request all citizens to exercise restraint and purchase only the quantity of fuel they actually need,тАЭ he said.
He further appealed to residents not to trust unverified social media forwards or fake news. Instead, he advised relying strictly on official communications and updates provided by the Ministry of Petroleum and official oil company portals to ensure accurate information.
