Pimpri Chinchwad, 29th July 2026: The proposed metro connectivity between Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Nigdi and Chakan is set for a major expansion, with the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) revising the alignment to cover 45.295 km and include 34 stations at an estimated project cost of тВ╣12,937.23 crore.
The revised proposal was presented to elected representatives and senior officials from Pimpri-Chinchwad during a meeting on Monday. MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar made the presentation in the presence of Pimpri-Chinchwad Mayor Ravi Landge, Maval MP Srirang Barne, MLAs Mahesh Landge and Shankar Jagtap, MLC Uma Khapre and senior officials of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
Metro corridor to connect key residential and industrial areas
The proposed line will start at Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Nigdi and run through Ravet, Punawale, Tathawade, Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Gurav, Nashik Phata, Bhosari, Moshi and Kurali, before terminating at Chakan.
The corridor is also planned to provide an interchange at Wakad with the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro corridor, potentially allowing passengers to switch between the two routes.
Three stations have been added to the revised plan тАФ Landewadi, Bhosari Gaon and Bhosari Sector No. 1.
Of the 34 proposed stations, 28 will be located within Pimpri-Chinchwad, while the remaining six will come under the jurisdiction of Chakan Municipal Council.
Part of Pimpri-ChinchwadтАЩs second phase of metro expansion
The Nigdi-Chakan corridor forms part of the second phase of Metro expansion in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Metro services currently operate between Dapodi and Pimpri, while work is in progress on a 4.519-km extension from Pimpri to Bhakti-Shakti Group Sculpture Chowk in Nigdi.
The proposed corridor would subsequently take the Metro network beyond Nigdi towards Chakan, connecting several rapidly developing residential, commercial and industrial areas.
Hardikar said representatives had suggested additional stations during the presentation and that MahaMetro would examine the proposals.
The revised project plan will be submitted to the PCMC General Body for consideration. Following municipal approval, the proposal will be forwarded to the Maharashtra government for further clearances.
Demand for wider connectivity
MLA Shankar Jagtap said the proposed corridor could improve connectivity between Pimpri-Chinchwad and the Chakan industrial belt while reducing travel time for commuters.
He highlighted the importance of Metro connectivity in fast-growing areas such as Wakad, Nashik Phata, Bhosari, Moshi and Chakan, where increasing residential development and industrial activity have placed additional pressure on existing roads.
MLA Mahesh Landge called for Dighi to be incorporated into the Metro network. He said residents of Dighi and surrounding areas should not be left out of the cityтАЩs expanding mass-transit system.
Mayor Ravi Landge said future Metro planning should account for the regionтАЩs projected population growth, industrial expansion, development of the IT sector and rising commuter demand.
He stressed that the Metro network should be designed with a long-term vision so that it can support Pimpri-ChinchwadтАЩs growth over the coming decades.
