Pimpri-Chinchwad, 24th August 2026: A planned wedding between two women police personnel serving in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has reportedly been called off, days after the couple had applied for leave for a Vedic ceremony scheduled to be held in Alandi on August 30.
The two police personnel had reportedly decided to marry after developing a close relationship over several years. Their decision had attracted attention within the police department, particularly after they submitted leave applications for the proposed wedding and attached an invitation card.
According to information available, the two women first met during the police recruitment process. Both had come to Pimpri-Chinchwad to pursue careers in the police force and subsequently joined the department as constables after completing the recruitment process and training.
They were initially posted at the police headquarters, where they stayed in accommodation with other women police personnel. They were later posted at the same police station in central Pimpri-Chinchwad, where their friendship reportedly developed into a relationship.
The relationship is understood to have faced opposition from members of the family of one of the women. The family reportedly approached senior police officials seeking intervention. However, police officials are understood to have maintained that the matter involved the personal lives of the two adults and that counselling could be offered if necessary.
The proposed wedding was subsequently cancelled. The two women are reportedly citing personal reasons for the decision. While there has been speculation that family or social pressure may have played a role, there is no official confirmation to establish that pressure was responsible for the cancellation.
Gender transition issue also draws attention
The developments have also brought attention to a separate administrative issue involving gender transition within the police department.
One of the two women is reportedly undergoing medical treatment related to gender transition at a hospital in Mumbai. The legal and administrative implications of the treatment in relation to the proposed marriage remain unclear.
Separately, another woman police employee in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate is understood to have undergone gender-affirming surgery. The employee had joined the force through a district transfer from Beed and reportedly obtained government permission before undergoing the procedure.
Following the surgery, the employee is understood to have sought permission to change the gender recorded in official service documents. A decision on the request has reportedly not yet been taken.
The matter involves questions concerning service records and the benefits received at the time of recruitment, including reservation and other concessions applicable to female candidates.
The developments have raised broader administrative and legal questions for the police department regarding gender identity, changes to service records and the rights of police personnel undergoing gender transition.
Police authorities have not publicly confirmed the reasons behind the cancellation of the proposed wedding or commented on the personal circumstances of the two women.
