Alandi, 2nd October 2026: The Alandi Municipal Council has sealed the premises of Winners Academy in Alandi following an inspection that allegedly found the coaching institute operating without the required business licence or No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the civic body.
The action comes a day after eight students from the academy died after drowning at Diveagar in Raigad district, where they had gone on a trip.
The students were from the Class 11-12 Science batches of Winners Academy, and a group of around 30 to 40 students had reportedly travelled to Diveagar for the outing.
The deceased students have been identified as Yash Kiran Wankhede, Soham Tukaram Bhandwalkar, Tanmay Dattatray Vahile, Kaustubh Sandeep Daund, Kaivalya Wasankar, Rajveer Vahile, Pranav Bansode and Sumit Ahire.
Alandi civic body inspects coaching classes
Following the incident, the Alandi Municipal Council began inspecting coaching classes and other establishments in the city.
As part of the inspection, a municipal team conducted an on-site inspection of the Winners Academy building. During the inspection, officials found that Winners Academy coaching classes were operating from a property owned by Narayan Haribhau Das, bearing old property number 1137 and new property number LAN00001729, according to the civic body.
The municipal council said its records did not show that the establishment had obtained the required business licence or NOC from the council.
Officials subsequently directed that action be taken under the applicable laws and regulations.
Winners Academy premises sealed
Following orders issued by Chief Officer Madhav Khandekar, a municipal team led by Tax Department Head Seema Charve sealed the Winners Academy premises.
Police officers and personnel were present during the action.
The Alandi Municipal Council said the action was taken to ensure that establishments obtain the required permissions and comply with applicable rules and regulations.
The civic action concerning the premises relates to the alleged absence of required municipal permissions.
