Pimpri, 18th November 2025: To strengthen early detection and ensure timely treatment of leprosy, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has rolled out an extensive door-to-door screening campaign across all urban wards. The drive is part of a state-level initiative being implemented from 17 November to 2 December 2025. The objective is not only to identify suspected cases at the earliest but also to dispel myths and reduce stigma associated with the disease.
тАЬLeprosy is fully curable, and removing misconceptions around it is extremely important. Through this intensive survey, PCMC is reaching every household with the goal of making the city leprosy-free. We urge citizens to cooperate with the field teams and ensure smooth screeningтАЭ, said Vijaykumar Khorate, Additional Commissioner, PCMC.
Under this campaign, PCMCтАЩs Medical Department has deployed specially trained field teams comprising ASHA workers and volunteers who will conduct a 14-day household survey. Every team is visiting homes daily to examine citizens for symptoms such as skin patches, numbness, swelling of nerves or reduced sensation. Individuals displaying suspicious signs are being immediately referred to municipal hospitals for further diagnosis and free, standardised treatment.
Alongside medical screening, teams are engaging with citizens to raise awareness about leprosy, emphasising that the disease is completely curable and that early reporting plays a crucial role in preventing long-term complications. PCMC has appealed to all residents to support the visiting teams and participate in the screening to safeguard their own health as well as that of the community.
