Pune, 8th April 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), along with Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City Ltd. and startup Pre-Vai, on Tuesday launched a public bicycle sharing project at the Linear Garden in Pimple Saudagar. The facility was inaugurated by BJP corporator Shatrughna alias Bapu Kate and NCP corporator Vitthal alias Nana Kate.
Civic officials said Pimpri Chinchwad is among eight cities selected from 66 countries for the initiative, underlining its global recognition. A total of 275 applications from cities across the world were received and only 8 were selected. The project is aimed at providing an affordable, convenient and eco-friendly option for short-distance travel in the city.
Officials added that the ride sharing system has been designed in line with European standards and incorporates international protocols such as IEC 62196-4 for DC charging. It is also part of a global energy initiative that enables monitoring and technical guidance. The project deploys advanced technologies including Internet of Things (IoT)-based integration, geo-fencing for safer operations, and a centralised command and control system.

The startup is receiving guidance from global experts based in Germany, who are also continuously monitoring its progress.
The bicycle sharing system operates on a dock-to-dock model and includes both smart bicycles and e-bicycles, supported by dock-based charging infrastructure. According to civic officials, the initiative is expected to go beyond mobility needs and contribute to building a cleaner, more organised and sustainable urban environment while promoting technology-driven transport solutions.
