Pimpri Chinchwad, 11th April 2026: Cracking down on lapses in curbing illegal constructions, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has initiated disciplinary action against three officials, including suspending two staff members and issuing a show-cause notice to a senior officer for alleged negligence and misconduct.
Municipal commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi ordered action after it was found that due procedures in handling unauthorised constructions and encroachments were not followed, and confidential information related to demolition drives was allegedly leaked.
Assistant commissioner Tanaji Narale, who heads the тАШEтАЩ ward, has been served a show-cause notice for failing to act effectively against illegal constructions despite being the authorised officer. A senior PCMC official said that an initiative of holding monthly review meetings was launched in February 2026 to monitor action against such structures. While notices were issued to 562 unauthorised constructions in the тАШEтАЩ ward, action was taken in only 82 cases, raising concerns over inaction. The commissioner has asked Narale to submit a written explanation within three days on why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him.
In a separate development, junior engineer Sandeep Hajare has been suspended and a departmental inquiry initiated against him for allegedly leaking sensitive information about an anti-encroachment drive scheduled on April 1. Hajare, who was responsible for monitoring illegal constructions in the тАШHтАЩ ward, reportedly shared details of the planned action a day in advance, leading to obstruction and pressure during the operation. Officials said he failed to respond to a prior notice seeking clarification.
Similarly, civil engineering assistant Shesherao Atkore has also been suspended for alleged dereliction of duty in the тАШDтАЩ ward, particularly in Pimple Gurav area. Authorities said he neither conducted surveys nor issued notices or initiated action against unauthorised constructions, resulting in a rise in illegal structures and complaints. He too failed to respond to a show-cause notice, following which action was taken.
Civic officials said departmental inquiries have been initiated against both suspended employees, stressing that negligence and breach of duty in such matters will not be tolerated.
